What you need

Requirements for Romanian applicants

  • Passport valid at least 6 months from the application date, machine-readable, with blank pages
  • Digital photo meeting the official requirements (plain light background, no glasses or headwear)
  • Application filled without errors on the official portal — typos and transliteration slips cause refusals
  • Medical insurance covering Russia for the entire stay — most Western insurers exclude Russia, so the policy must be chosen carefully

Most refusals come from the photo and from small mismatches between the form and the passport — see our guide to rejection reasons.

Getting there

Your route from Romania

There are currently no direct flights between Romania and Russia, so the practical way in is over land through Kaliningrad. From Gdańsk or Warsaw on the Polish side — or Vilnius and Kaunas on the Lithuanian side — buses reach the border in a few hours. Checkpoint choice and timing matter: that is exactly what our route planning covers.

Step-by-step border guides: Kaliningrad border crossing, from Gdańsk and from Vilnius.

VAT note: if you live in the EU, VAT (IVA) is added to our service prices at checkout at your country's standard rate — shown before you confirm. This depends on residence, not citizenship.

Quick answers

Romanian travelers ask

Can Romanian citizens get the Russian e-visa?

Yes. Romania is on the official list of 64 eligible countries. The e-visa is issued for 120 days with a single stay of up to 30 days, processing takes about 4 calendar days, and the consular fee is about US$52. No invitation letter or hotel booking is required.

How do I actually get to Russia from Romania?

There are currently no direct flights between Romania and Russia, so the practical way in is over land through Kaliningrad. From Gdańsk or Warsaw on the Polish side — or Vilnius and Kaunas on the Lithuanian side — buses reach the border in a few hours. Checkpoint choice and timing matter: that is exactly what our route planning covers.

Do EU residents pay VAT on your services?

Our prices are net. If your country of residence is an EU member state, VAT (IVA) is added at checkout at your country's standard rate and shown before you confirm. This depends on where you live, not on your passport.
